Why is health important?
To be a productive member of society, you need to be able to make sacrifices. You can’t always sleep in, go to the zoo with your family, and attend a party in the evening, as enjoyable as that may be at times.
One of those sacrifices is often our health. Physically, and therefore also mentally. This sacrifice, which may not be noticeable in your 30s, has irreversible consequences in your 60s.
We believe that contributing to the world around us is the most meaningful thing we can do as human beings. And anyone doing something meaningful needs to be able to think long-term.
We need to give up time with friends and family in the short term, all with the goal of making the world a better place for ourselves and our children in the long term.
Short-term sacrifices to be useful can sometimes seem insignificant. Only when we consider the compounding effect, or the “return-on-return effect,” do we see how important those first small steps are. Daily actions that have little immediate effect can have a massive impact in the long term.
The same principle applies to our health. In the short term, we invest time and energy to live healthy and productive lives in the long term. Moreover, the last years of our lives have the greatest influence on the world around us.
Due to our years of growth as individuals, a relatively small amount of energy from us can ultimately have a massive impact on the world.
When we look at our health through this lens, it becomes clear what we need to do. Invest time and energy in health now to come closer to our potential long-term impact.
